To Imagine an Infinity
To Imagine an Infinity is to begin to grasp it. Beginning with an investigation in the sensibilities of infinities and our interface with vastness, this project proposes three discrete apparatuses that interact with the immeasurable Scottish Peatlands. Together, they illustrate and preserve the myths and folklore that create the Scottish imaginary. The ownership of the peatlands is contested, and with it, the conceptions of the landscape. A hundred miles away from the peatlands, in Edinburgh, is a municipal building that handles land ownership registration. Attached to this building is an enclosure to maintain the myths and beliefs of the peatlands and treat the local imaginary as necessary data for the functioning of the bureaucracy.
