Destroy, therefore Create
Reclamation of Native Space in Western Nicaragua
This project envisions a new meeting space for the Council of Elders of the Monimbo, an indigenous community in Nicaragua known for using cultural manifestations, acts of spatial resistance, and artisanal explosives to assert control over their lands. The proposed design condenses cultural and geographic conditions into one annually planned space, constructed, and destroyed in an endless loop. The repetitive controlled destruction is offered as a new form of expression for the Monimbo to uphold authority over their native spaces. The project aims to contribute to the community’s historical continuity, reinforcing their sense of place.
