Religion as a Mechanism of Public Freedom

Religion and its methodology can also be a source of exclusiveness when its teachings and practices are sometimes unintentionally used to divide people based on their beliefs, ethnicity, or other characteristics. This segregation can lead to a sense of superiority among the believers of that particular group, while those outside the group are rejected and excluded.

The experience of religion and faith in religious interpretations can convert ordinary physical locations into sacred spaces which later becomes exclusion. These ideas and feelings affect how these places are utilized and shape the individual’s spiritual significance attached to using such holy areas.

However, Religion can be a mechanism for promoting public freedom. The impact of religion on public freedom depends on various factors, including the interpretation and practice of religion, the political and social context, and the beliefs and values of the people involved.

This primer investigates objects, elements, places, spaces, and beliefs that relate to religions across different cultures. With the religion as a mechanism and design techniques for each case study, these open up the opportunity for the emergence of freedom, either tangible or intangible.
